The best way to improve it ...is by talking to ur self looking at mirror like u r speaking to urself..try to read more newspapers and books which improves ur grammer and also try to speak a lilttle loud and clear ...ur pronounciations should be loud n clear. When u try to speak slow it sounds gud as an average Indian speaks faster than a average american...as American stress on words and make intonations in speech.

If you're serious, I think there are a number of things you could do.
1. Read a lot. Pay attention to the words that are used, how the sentences are constructed, and how the larger arc of the paper, article or book is formed.
2. Get involved with discussion groups about topics you are interested in. Participate. Let your passion for the subject matter motivate you to find ways to express yourself.
3. Get feedback from others about your communication skills. Find out if you're saying too much or too little.
4 If you feel your vocabulary is holding you back. Read. Read.
5. Take a debating class. Learn how to formulate logical and coherent arguments.
6. Learn how to target your language and argument to the audience you are confronted with. If you are speaking to a 7 year old boy, you'll want to understand first how he things about the subject matter and try to phrase it in terms of his concepts. If you're talking to an 80 year old, try to understand what her ways of thinking about things are, then phrase your ideas in terms that resonate with that audience.

Listen to what other people say, how they say it, and when they say it. Do not just duplicate someone's personality, but listening strangly can help you improve the way you communicate.

You must specify whether it is written or oral communication.
My suggestion is that if you want to speak fluently a particular language, you must think in terms of that language and not your mother tongue i.e. you must think and speak in English and not (think in your mother tongue and speak in english). You can speak more with your friend and improve him too.
