THe first captain of England Cricket Team was
James Lillywhite (jnr). He captained England in the first Test
Cricket Test played against Australia in the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 15th to 19th March 1877

James Lillywhite was the first captain of England in the first ever test match, but the first PROFESSIONAL captain was Sir Len Hutton, when he was appointed to the post full time in 1952. The amateur/professional division was abandoned by English cricket in 1962....
