I am not sure about ants, but I read that even spider can protect people.
This had happened in the life of Mohd. When he was travelling from Mecca to Medina, he was followed by people who tried to kill him. Mohd felt very tired and entered into a cave to take rest. At the entrance of the cave, there was a spider, who saw the people approaching the cave searching for Mohd. To protect him, the spider created web in the entrance. When the people arrived the cave they found that the entrance was cob-webbed and they thought that Mohd cannot be inside.
There is another occasion narrated in the great epic Ramayana. When Rama's army was building the bridge between India and SriLanka, a small squirrel helped by making its body wet in the water, get rolled in the sand and transfer that sand to the bridge.
Thus there are many ways where small beings can save the universe.

Sure.
Let's say some diabolical madman is about to do something silly - like blowing up the sun because a girl wouldn't go out with him, or something.
This little ant could bite the madman - and, perhaps the madman is deathly allergic to ants. Now, the madman is dead, and everything is right in the galaxy.

Atom Ant did it in 1967. But real ants are way too crafty to get caught up in a job like that.

hmm... a very hard question! what do you think? i mean, superman and the justice leage had a very hard time saving the world... what more an ant? but i dont know! there might be a posibility, if the ant is as big as hulk, and as powerful as superman

No one can save the universe. Matter is finite, empty space is infinite. Divide any number by infinity and the result will be zero. We are doomed to annihilation.
