Alfie Kohn (see his website) has some interesting research results on homework and how, for elementary students, there is no evidence that homework improves test scores or grades. For secondary, there is a correlation between homework completion and grades, but that may be to teachers' grading practices. Interesting food for thought.

Though I can't say that teachers are stupid (some are perhaps unqualified to teach a curriculum), teachers give homework so that you can practice your academic skills in order to go to college, and become a productive member of society.

You can, of course, choose NOT to do your homework - either barely pass or flunk out of high school entirely, and wind up serving me my burgers when I come through on lunch break.

It's entirely up to you. :D

I am a mum to a ten year old son and I hate the whole homework thing. It drives me nuts, my son does sport after school and just doesnt seem to have enough time during the day. I think homework is unnecessary in primary and high school and think kids have enough to deal with as it is.

It's part of the job to reinforce what you are learning in the classroom with homework - your job as a student is to do it.
