There is no easy treatment for hepatitis C. (Yeah well it was either this one or HIV/AIDS). See the wiki page.

Treatment is with nasty immunomodulators and antivirals and NOT with milk thistle. No alternative therapy has been scientifically shown to have benefit in treating Hep C. Not Milk Thistle, not liquorice root, not colloidal silver ...

Avoid alcohol, avoid recreational drugs
Reduced amounts of paracetamol (acetaminophen) as people with hepatitis have been sometimes known to accidentally overdose if they take the usual amounts.

Be more specific if you are talking about a different virus or a different way the drug use caused the liver problem.

The wiki page on liver transplantation has a few good links to sites discussing treatment of Hep C

Do a search online for "Liver flush". There are some safe and natural procedures. Some herbs like Milk Thistle and Dandelion Root help stimulate and cleanse the liver.

The liver is tough. Usually it takes years of drug and alcohol abuse to affect it negatively.

Let's Get Well by Adelle Davis has some old but tried and tested ideas for dealing with liver problems. She helped a lot of people. No reason why what worked well then should not work well now.
See also Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine (Murray & Pizzorno) and Prescription For Natural Cures (Balch & Stengler) for a lot of good discussion and good ideas.
Good luck and God bless!

Indeed milk thistle is an excellent supplement, however your friend had better get serious and get some blood tests..if he has some form of hepatitis or other, he needs more than milk thistle.. he needs medical treatment so that he won't develop any permanent condition that would lead to liver failure
