YES! Especially if you want to be understood.
Why do you think our spelling system hasn't changed in hundreds of years even though it's far outdated? Because then no one would but an elite few would be able to read anything written before.
And punctuation is important, especially to hear the voice of the writer come out. It helps the reader to understand exactly what the author means.

yes i do think it matters if you can't spell or punctuate right, but i can't do none of those but i have a good job hard working and a house of my own a good car all payed for. I'm not saying you get this for free, I've worked hard, i just wish i could spell better and things! my wife's gram ma and spelling is far superior to mine but I'd say i was more mentally strategic.after reading some of the other answers i've decided to put this in i'm far from dumb and i'm certainly not lazy people who can't punctuate or spell properly doesn't make the daft! i really think the poeple who think that really need to take a closer look.

If you want to get a decent job, probably yes. It is also a lot harder on the eye trying to read how you have written the above question.

If you filled in a job application to work for me, and you wrote like that, your application would go straight in the bin. But if you're texting your friends, it doesn't matter at all. It's all about context and being able to make yourself understood.

i do have a problem lyk that and it really matters to me, coz it makes me look stupid, but in fairness to me, i came from a non english speaking country. also i am not proficient in typing so evrytym i hit the wrong keys n do backspaces and i'm fed up with it. so i try to practice more in typing, grammar and spelling coz it really matters.

I think it would be less likely for people to understand what you mean, yes I think it would be a problem if your grammer and spelling was poor

If you really can't spell it does matter because it doesn't reflect well upon you and you won't be able to write properly. But I know that you can spell, haha :D
