My friend gave birth to a baby girl last April and she named her Celeste. Shs has comments every now and then about the pronunciation. Can anyone help?

The first 2 "e's" should be short (like the "e" in "pen").
The last "e" should be silent, making the name have only 2 syllables.

Of course, since this is the name she gave her baby, she can pronounce it however she wishes. Just be consistent and others will pick up on it.

I think that with all the weird bay names now, Celeste is a silly one to ask pronounciation of. It is pretty easy if you know the English language! I like it.

that is FRENCH, it is a very beautiful name
CE-LES-TE
remember that when you pronounce it
you have to think that SAY-LESS-T
pronouce the T
I hope that help
and for the people that making fun if you can not pronouce something don't say anything about it
I bet you are the same people that will name your children after fast food restaurants , the McDonals menue, & cities like Brooklyn,
so don't make fun of other that go to the distance to name their baby

its pronounced as sir-les-te. but i guess some people will pronounce without the te. so to avoid confusion, perhaps you can change the name to Celest so that all will pronounce it as sir-les.
