I've never heard of anything but the literal meaning of #1, and #3, if it is supposed to be a saying, is probably not one used in this country. "Many hands make light work" means that tasks are less difficult when they are shared. The leading part (or role) in a film is the main actor or actress, usually the one with the most lines.

"My little brother enjoys stories and asks to be read to every night at bedtime."

2. when there are more people to help, the burden of the work reduces on each individual.
3. I feel low in spirits
4. the main role

e.g.1: I have a book of Fairy Tales that needs to be read to my grandchildren tonight.

e.g.2: The will of the deceased man has to be read to his family by a lawyer.
