I love the sound of bagpipes.
Part of the problem is that there are people out there attempting to play the bagpipes in public that have no business doing so. It is a very difficult instrument to tune correctly and will sound like trash if not tuned well. Imagine playing an out of tune piano! No wonder some people think they don't like the bagpipes.
(There are even a few pipe bands that worry more about how they look than how they sound.)
A well-tuned bagpipe is something absolutely magical to hear. There's nothing really quite like it around.

you're no longer the only one that strongly dislike bagpipes. i ask your self how Scottish people like playing bagpipes and people like listening to the bagpipes. i think of that the bagpipes are the worst instruments made. Ugh, i ask your self how people can... i will't even clarify how lots I dislike the bagpipes.

Actually I love the sound of them. It is something to truely appreciate and alot of people do not realize how complex and difficult they are too play. If you hear bagpipes played right they are haunting and very emotional but then again you didnt offer that much of a creative reason behind your question and you come off quite narrow minded

I love them and my ancestors all came from eastern Europe so it isn't a cultural thing for me. My wife on the other hand is Irish/ Scotch/ English and can't stand them. I can see why they were used when marching into battle. So many people hate them that they were told that the pipers would stop playing only if the soldiers won the battle.

I think they sound pretty good. A friend of mine has a rock band that uses bagpipes and the sound is amazing. Polka music should be STOPPED, however.

There lives a man, two doors down from me, who has been practicing playing the bagpipes since I was a baby. Most Sunday afternoons or evenings he gives it his best.
Sometimes he's good enough, sometimes he's just not.
But whenever I hear him, it puts a bloomin' great smile on my face...

One of the most beautiful sounds around. The pipes have stirred and strenghtened many a Scotish warriors heart.
Of course, one must have taste and intelligence to love them.
