If she gets pregnant this will be her first child. I know she wants to have baby very much, but I worry that either she won't get pregnant or if she does get pregant that there may be complications. My question is how likely is it that a woman her age will be able to conceive and have a healthy baby?

it is VERY dangerous to have a baby at that age. there are all sorts of complications that can arise. its just not a good idea. you should tell your friend to either adopt or have a surrogate mother carry her child.

At 48? It has happened, and if she has a baby she won't be in the Guiness book. But the chance of complications do increase with age, so she should get some preconception counselling. If she does conceive (which is possible) she should get lots of prenatal care, including an amniocintesis.

Has she considered adoption?

Back out, I am sure that your friend is very concern about her situation, just wait for her to invite you in then you talk to her about the con don't be too pushy about it you might loss a friend
you should just offer to help any way you can
By the way with the tests they have these days she will know in advance if their is a problem with her baby
Just give your Friend support
she already know her age no need fro you to remind her

If she hasn't gone through menopause, it is entirely possible, but the probability rating for a Down Syndrome Child is VERY high.

It really depend on her health and yeah older women have more complications and have a harder time conceiving and time is not on her side. I do wish her luck though.

Well, your friend's child will be 10 when she is, at least, 58 wouldn't this be unfair to the child?

Children should not be treated as pets!

it has happened, she might need the help of IVF or some other fertility help.

Her pregnancy is going to be watched very closely as it is a high risk pregnancy because of her age
