Do arranged marriages last longer that the traditional ones and why?

I was told today that arraged marriage last longer the the traditional one and was wondering if there have beeen any studies on finding why?

Arranged marriages probably last longer because the same culture that requires it is the same culture that does not allow divorce or with severe consequences (usually more problems for the woman than the man). Perhaps it's not just this however, but the concept of marriage the couple has. Arranged or not, a marriage will last (if there are no abnormal circumstances such as abuse) if both parties believe that it's a commitment forever. If you have the Western/American mind state- oh well, if it doesn't work out I can always get divorced- then it's much more likely to fall apart when the going gets rough.

I think it is little confusing , means ,arranged marriage are known to be the traditional or you mean love marriage .
In arranged marriage , both partners are supposed to respect their families and are bound to follow instuctions laid by the family traditions .So naturally , both have social pressure to be together and learn to respect family bonds .
In love marriage two individuals take their deciesion to live together permanently without any elders permission or any family compulsion . Here both are independant , no social control or pressur to behave them selves and some time leads to uncompromise situations , where no middle man or adviser availabe .

The mountains last longer but they are not alive .A modern dynamic life may last shorter but more beneficial than than a long life arranged marriage .

I have yet to come across of arranged marriage which end up in divorce..
Dont look down on arranged marriage..parents usually knows what to look for, for their children happiness and well being!

I don't know, but would have to guess yes. I imagine in cultures that have arranged marriages, the taboos against divorce are also very strong.

Arranged marriages r in cultures where love is not sort after and lust is controlled also women there obey their husbands. But in this arrangement their is no you bef and after wedding no other gf wives etc so lots less problems maybe??? Who knows unless they did both.

you know why? because couples who get married that way, have no right to choose their life partner, they usually have no saying in it at all, husband/wife is chosen by their parents. because of that, divorce is like a shame on the family name. so they just stay married despite all the problems they face in the marriage.

maybe because they respect thier culture so much that they are more willing to do what people tell them to do other than what may make them happy.
