Nightmare on Elm Street is a classic.
For newer movies, I was really impressed by Saw.

The Others was totally freaky.. So was Sixth Sense..
Actually Asian horror movies are so much more disturbing compared to Hollywood ones somehow.. Esp Korean movies.. *shudders*

I am torn between Gothika, and the original Nightmare on Elm Street. Both were good and well acted. So I guess for me it is a tie. I did like Psycho to, but I don't think it is the best.

The Shining.
It's more psychological than a bunch of worthless gore.
