I know they came as slaves but it's the second part that stumps me. People..I'm not dumb. I know how to "open a text book" as so man of you put it.. so here it is:
What did they hope to find? Achieve? Escape?
It's not like someone said 'come be my slave in portugal' and they said 'yes'..you know?
Oh and if you go to the homework help section..be prepared for 'homework questions'

Were they tricked into coming? Promised better things? Thoughts of Christianity tricked them? or were they beaten and forced?

Are you serious? I am Australian and know they were stolen from their country for slavery.
What did they hope for? Freedom and the chance to go home you silly person.

Most were brought against their will as slaves. I doubt they had many, if any, expectations of a greater life in America. That's why their history is so amazing; they had/have to work very hard to be where they are today.

African Americans did not come to america they were brought over as slaves on a boat . So they had no say in the matter

They didn't come to America, they were hunted down and dragged to America to become slaves, yes some tried to escape and were either beaten or killed for trying to do so.

IF YOU ARE OLDER THAN SIX YEARS OLD, YOU SHOULD ALREADY KNOW THEY WERE KIDNAPPED. THEY WERE SOLD FOR CASH AND THEIR CHILDREN WERE SOLD FROM THEIR FAMILIES. RESEARCH AMERICAN SLAVERY. DON'T THEY HAVE BLACK HISTORY IN YOUR SCHOOL. THEY WERE FORCED TO WORK FOR FREE. THEY WERE RAPED AND BEATEN. THEIR CHILDREN WERE ABUSED AND SOLD. THIS IS WHY SOME PEOPLE STILL HATE OTHER PEOPLE TODAY. GOD BLESS AND TALK TO YOUR PARENTS. TRY THE HISTORY CHANNEL. AFRICA IS A VERY BACKWARD COUNTRY. IT HAS AGAIN BEEN INVADED BY THE WHITE MAN. THEY CONTINUE TO KEEP THE NATIVE INHABITANTS IN A SUBSTATUS WHILE THEY ENJOY THE RICHES OF THE COUNTRY. HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF.

They didnt have a choice,they were brought to america as slaves mostly to work on the cotton farms in the south.

They didnt come here by choice.... They were plucked from their homeland by greedy white people who are lazy , put on ships and told WORK.

They didn't come too America, they were dragged on a boat, beaten, whipped, raped and enslaved on plantations. Its' called slavery. You are called ignorant

they didn't want to come....they were brought as slaves by the Portuguese, and sold to land-owning Americans to to work for free.
