It's that time of year again.

How do I get rid of the ugly dark lines along the creases? It was made in Israel and there are no laundry instructions.

The tallit (prayer shawl "cloak" that is worn during the morning Jewish services (the Shacharit prayers) in Judaism, during the Torah service, and on Yom Kippur) has special twined and knotted "fringes" known as tzitzit attached to its four corners.
It is usually woven of wool. Some use silk, and cotton or linen are also traditional choices. In our days, other materials are also used — including synthetic materials like rayon, polyester and acrylic.

Since you have not told us what it is made of, it is tough to decide how to care for it. I'd guess that washing in cold water, gentle cycle, would be best. Maybe even avoiding the washing machine entirely, and washing by hand would be better. Still, cold water and mild detergent are probably necessary. If it has a label that tells what it is made of, you can probably search for 'laundry care' and look for how to care for that type of fabric to narrow it down further. I would not use the dryer, air dry on a plastic hanger or over a clothesline.

The 'dark lines' are from storage, if so, you are not storing it properly. You need to keep it in an acid-free environment, not a regular cardboard box or anything like that. You can buy special archival boxes that are acid-free that will preserve the garment longer. Wrapping it in acid-free paper will help, as well.

If you store it in a wooden box, the stain or oil applied to the wood may have stained it. This may require paint thinner or a petroleum-distillate based cleaner to remove, I expect. Wash all of it out of the garment thoroughly after using, that's imperative. And be sure to wrap the tallit well in acid-free paper before putting it back into such a box. Maybe line the box with plastic, too.

For stain removal, you might try borax, or color-safe bleach, or oxy-clean , I think the packages will give better instructions on how to use them than I can provide. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to use regular bleach, unless you are sure it is cotton or linen.
