The cleaner the hair, the more the lather. It has less oil and dirt to pick up.

The first time, your hair has lots of oil in it, and that keeps the shampoo from foaming. The second time, the shampoo doesn't have to fight the influence of the oil, so you get more sudsing.

a chemical reaction takes place when u use shampoo on ur hair. so the first time it doesnt lather as much cos the viscosity of the oil in the hair by the 2nd time has lightened and the impurities are less. the chemical components of soap at the time are in their strongest state, but the presence of a high level of impurities- hair cream, hair spray, conditioner etc (which u must remember have different chemical formulae) weaken the combination of soap. eg if u had 2molecules of hydrogen etc the presence of impurities would make the mass of the soap be different and less pure. By the second time, u have soap in a purer form and more able to work as soap...

The first time you use shampoo, it interacts with oils and dirt in your hair. Surfactants (the things in your shampoo that "cut" through oils and and free them from your hair) get bound up with the oils and dirt. These surfactants also contribute to foaming, but the second time you wash more of them are free to foam than the first time when they are bound up with oils/dirt.

My guess is because you don't get all the shampoo out the first time. Who knows. If you lather your hands before you put them on your head you will get more foam.

Because there is less oil to take in the shampoo. More water after you rinse too.
