He would have let the CIA start the bay of pigs(kennedy fired them) and got the whole armed forces involved in a war on cuba.

That's when I joined the Army. We had just finished Basic Training in Louisiana and were standing on a Tarmac waiting to board a plane for Cuba. They just issued live ammo and we were going to invade Cuba and the Missile area. We were going to war with Russia. It was the Russians doing this, not the Cubans. It would have escalated into a full war with the Russians and we knew that. What was scary was the reality that they could have hit us with an ICBM with a Nuclear warhead. A very intense time. JFK called their bluff and they pulled out. Had Bush been President, I don't know what would have happened. He probably would have used one of our ICBM's and began the war...

Putting aside the immediate contingency of '62, Cuba would be prosperous now, and Moscow would be a glitzier vacation spot than Vegas.

The if game is utterly pointless, due to the implications of chaos theory.

Russia and the U.S. would be leveled and uninhabitable. Both would let loose with nukes to level the other. Bush would be the first to push the red button and not think about the consequences.

a u.s. protectorate.

The U.S. would be a little more red. And not the Patriotic kind. The Kruschev (mispelled probably) kind. But, at least we would be down one idiotic leader!
