I have blonde hair & blue or hazel eyes depending on what I wear.
Skin tone makes a difference to which mine is olive. If your son has a red/pink skin tone, please do not put him in a red or orange shirt, try green which tones down red/pink!

Blue, purple, & teal are good colors for me.

Different shades of green, I have hazel eyes with light red hair. I would go with Army green, or khaki, seafoam green, olive green-pale, emerald green, or blue-green shades. Good luck. I like one suggestion of buttery warm yellows...sounds nice, it does depend on skin tone. Yellowish skin tone...stay away from yellows. Good luck.
