Its a difficult decision to quit in peak on one's career as Michael did from motorsports his heart and soul is still with formula one and he will live with it whole life. He was born to be a champion and he will be remembered for his brilliance behind the wheels. He opted to retire this year becos he dont want young talent face obstacles from his presence which shows how much he loves this sport. He moved away for Massa and Raikonen. As he promised he will be back in Ferrari soon but playing a differrent role this time so wait n watch.

Well... I'm guessing you're talking about Michael Schumacher.

I think he is far from the peak of his career. He claimed that peak in 2004, when he was unbeatable, but 2005 and 2006 brought him down to earth with a bang.

So he isn't going to retire on a high, because he is still behind in the WDC, and the next race is a jinx for him. He finished 12th in 2004 with a dominant car while his teammate won. Last year he spun out.

Schumacher is going to retire in humiliation.

Two points I would like make here.

1. Stock Markets: If you ever play the stock markets you will see that holding on in the hope of more doesn't usually pay. Up to a point, you make money, after that you start on the downward. Thus some people prefer to lose some money and sell off early, just so they leave at a high.

2: Memory: What will people remember me as? What's the last picture they have of me. Memories are very important to people who've been at the top. Many film stars do not step out of their homes if their looks deteriorate because they like to be remembered as always young and beautiful. And not as 'someone who used to be lovely once'.

Retiring from a career is just like these two. You want to leave at your glorious best, except you can't predict the future, and thus, have to find your peak and decide that this is enough, no more. Those who wait on, like Agassi and Zidane, do not always leave on a high as they want. Those who preempt the demise, like Schumi, like to leave when the going's good. So, to answer your question, yes, it's very difficult.

It's a tough one, but taking Michael Schumacher as an example, given the stress and strain of racing as well as attending sponsor events the world over, it's probably time for him to hang up his boots. F1 is a dangerous sport, and one which requires 100%, given this and the fact that the 37 yr old driver has achieved more than anyone else in motorsport, he's rightly chosen to step down and spend some quality time with his family, enjoying the spoils of his success.

I wish him all the best, stepping down at the height of his career, at Monza infront of the Tifosi, whilst driving a Ferrari is much better than slowly fading out at Midland F1!

I suppose to say it wont be difficult for a person who quits at the peak of his/her career. Its nice to have a retirment when he is stable rather than getting weakened and forcibly chucked out. I say our schumy has made a wonderful decision in his career to spot out the greatest place in the history for his name specially.

its not possible to imagine the difficulty. If it is difficult to decide to quit it is far far difiicult to accept that after u quit unless u land up with something more successful or powerful. but u come down several steps in terms of comfort levels and u need to work really harder to get back there.

I am going thru that now having quit at the peak of my creer and the world is so diiferent and tough too. rightly money matters now.

Always difficult. The amount of passion given in to reach there makes it difficult. However, the amount of energy spent to retain the top spot, helps to take such a decision.

Must be extremely hard, if ur talking about schumacher then I think he should have gone on and tried to win 10world championships, which he was very capable of doing. But now Kimi has joined Ferrari, they aren't losing any talent in the team.
