"Every cloud has a silver lining" means that when your life has a "stormy" circumstance, the sun WILL eventually come out so you can see the "silver lining" - the bright side of the situation.
This is especially true when a person trusts God with the decisions he/she makes in life. Unfortunately, some people seem to just stay "under a cloud" where they can't see the "silver lining".

You have been up all night trying to contain firebombs without success in between throwing yourself to the ground with H.E. bombs falling in sticks.
No house left to live in but a soot covered kettle has a little water inside it.
It tastes terrible but it's wet.
You look up at the dawn and the dark clouds are edge lit by the yet to rise sun.
Thank God that nights over.
It is daylight and a new day.
You are alive and mentally resting before the next night arrives.
This is only one of such examples.

Literally, when clouds creep over the sun the final rays are highlighted around the edges of the clouds. This is used to suggest that even though it is cloudy the sun is still around and will eventually appear ~ in other words even though you have a problem eventually things will get better.

Even though something may seem bad, it won't last forever.
It comes from the fact that when the sun is behind a cloud it gives it a bright glow at its edges. So, when the cloud gets blown away, there's the sun right behind it!

When all look bad and nothing is good, search a little deeper and you will see that something good always comes out of anything bad.
It is the silver lining in all of our problems.
When God closes all door, somewhere he leaves a little window open.

It means that if something bad happens to you there is something good that will come out of it. Sometimes things happen to us and we think that it is the end of the world but out of that sadness something new and good comes along. You might lose a job that you think is the best but then afterwards you find an even better job. You might have to go to the doctor for something and he discovers that you need an urgent operation to save your life...so your life is saved by having to go to him

or if someone disagrees.......
just look the dark clouds......if there's any...u will see the edges have lighter hue.....that goes the same with our feelings...sometimes we are down and out......and yet we have to see other blessings that we take for granted because of wallowing in our misery

Funny isn't it how we have our own interpretation of these things. I don't see it as 'something good will follow something bad' (hope) but more like a bad event actually having a positive side e.g. 'that which does not kill us makes us stronger', lessons learned etc.

An oriental version I love and prefer to this reads.......
'From 'excrament,' grows corn.'
Does that help you.?
[ it puts some spin on a somewhat tired cliche ]
Regards.
