I had Norton, too and had trouble with it. You can download "avast for home" free from avast.com. It is a good anti-virus software program, and it does not have those annoying boxes popping up all the time saying "allow this program access to your computer?" I have had avast for about 5 months and have had no problems. It slows your computer down a tiny bit, because it scans everything, but I don't think much can get by it. If it finds something, sirens will go off. With Norton, 2 trojans got by it. If you keep Norton, run the Yahoo Anti-Spy on the toolbar, and you can see and delete anything harmful that may have gotten into your computer.

The norton anti-virus works like a fuse. If any virus attacks the anti-virus defends your computer but sometimes it itself gets infected or spoilt. All you have to do is uninstall norton anti-virus then perform an online virus checking using trend micro systems online virus scanner and after clearing the virus from your computer ( mostly it will be there) you re-install norton anti-virus and update the latest signatures. Do not doubt the norton anti-virus scanner it is the best but only thing is it slightly slows down your computer and this can be seen in machines older than pentium IV in such case you install norton anti-virus 2003 which will be equally effective but runs faster.

I had the same trouble with Norton.
I was using it with the Norton Fire Wall - and together, they didn't come cheap.
After struggling with it for a couple of months, I took both out of my computer, replaced it with AVG Anti-Virus (which you can upload from the web, including daily updates - all completely free - and I've never had any trouble since.

Honestly... I got this computer 2 months ago, it came with norton, I DELETED NORTON. (all of it) And Downloaded AVG Antivirus Free Edition from Download.com. I've been running on my other computer for almost 2 years now, and not a SINGLE virus had been found.
