The number of years of school doesn't matter as much as a yearning to learn. Sidney poitier is a self taught man, but if you didn't know that, you'd think he had 10 PHD's

The best way to understand being a college graduate is to be one. That "piece of parchment " will certainly mean nothing to one who hasn't worked for it. By the way, after college, you will not view the world as you did in high school.

An educated person is someone who has studied. That does not necessarily make them a clever person it just means that they can retain facts.
As to what that piece of parchment signifies, it is a key - that piece of paper can open doors, that is why we study. You can be the cleverest person on the planet, but unless you can prove that you know your subject with a piece of paper, nobody is going to employ you.
People say that it is only once you leave school/college/university that you begin really learning about life.

I've been sitting here for the past few minutes trying to think how to convey this to you. I think I'll start like this; I wouldn't give five cents for a straight "A" college student. What you get is someone with a head full of facts and formulas who couldn't think themselves out of the lunch room. It's better to have a "B" or even a "C" student. That person is likely to have taken advantage of the college experience. By that I mean they've participated in some of the organizations, attended social functions which has taught them how to organize, how to rub elbows with other educated people, in short they not only carry away academic skills, they can function in the real world. College is almost a must if you're going to succeed any more, but get a dose of all it has to offer.

my ideas about an educated person,
they are person who finish college where they can use to a business or i man job to support there selves so in short to be professional,or going into social life wich they gain more there abilities, knowledges and skills. BUT even do whatever a people is graduate or not grad, the important is there attitude, even do a person is a colllege graduate if he/she didnot use in a right way the education that they get will be NONSCINCE..ITS still depends to a person how they hundle there life..but its more helpul if they finish there college for there future..

I agree with S E E. And usually humility is the first thing to depart when the degrees start piling up. I went to grad. school; big deal! An educated a..is still an educated a.., and I've known a lot of them. The biggest bunch of poseurs I've ever known all have one or two advanced degrees.

I dont know if there is a particular "meaning" to be learned in College. Those armed with a College degree (if for no other reason) have proof that they can follow through with something. That they can put their mind to something and succeed! College is not easy, but its not Hard either.. it just takes dedication. You learn much more than facts in College. You learn about eachother, you learn about life outside your parents nest. You learn how to care for yourself and for others. And of course you do learn many facts to get you through life and well.. JOB INTERVIEWS! hahaha..

An educated person should be the one who is smart which means that the person should be able to think critically, not just what he/she studies in school.

the mark of an educated man is humility. Just a quote but a pretty good one. For a good example of the reverse, read the first 'answer'.
