I want to go there...yet I don't have any idea about its people...

People living in the Philippines are Good people, they are one of the most hospitable people in Asia, sure, mostly are poor but they will welcome you and give you what they can afford. Of course, like any other people around the world there are good and bad.But they will not do you any harm. People from the Philippines are Family oriented, and mostly live in a close Family relationship. They were taught to be polite and respectful especially to elders. Most of them speak English(even if it's broken english) because English were taught in school.
The Philippines have Three Major Big Islands, the Luzon, Visayas and the Mindanao and with all the smaller Islands around them, a total of 7,200 islands.Because the Philippines have many different kinds of ethnic groups, they comprise of 52 dialects and Tagalog is the language that mostly spoken.
People from the Philippines are Asians, and about 80% are Christians with different kinds of religious sector like Baptist, Mormons,Catholics,etc. There are also Muslims in the Philippines especially from the South.
If you would like to go to the Philippines and you want to research first, there are books from barnes & noble that you can read, their web address :www.bn.com or in your local library. Like any other place, if you are concern about safety, it is much better to travel with a tour guide.Your Travel Agent can tell you this.
The most popular with tourist is Boracay Beach Resort from the Visayas Island, I've been there and I enjoyed it a lot. I hope I can tell you a lot more but it is up to you to find out. As a matter of fact, I'm going back there this October for 20 days and planning to go back every year if I can.

I am an American Missionary/Evangelsit and have live in the Philippines for over four years... All the bad things that you mention can happen any where you go if you hang out in bars odds are you will see some one shot or knifed. Y You will also find that all the drunks love you because you are the fool from America who brings all your money to the bar with you and then you get drunk and spend it to buy every one else drinks because you think the are laughing with you instead of at you. It all depends on several things.... 1. How stupied do you want to be? 2. What kind of friends do you want to hang around with? 3. What do you want from this experiance of moving to the Philippines for a couple of years? 4. Do you really want to get to know the people and the beautiful Islands, or are you comeing because the beer is cheep? I really am not trying to be mean or put down anyone from any where....But you have to remember that 99% of the Filipinos will swear you as an American are rich and have money set aside and own land and all sorts of things....even if you are only drawing a low pension as I do and no matter what you try to tell them to change there mind, they will not understand or believe it.. I think everyone should come and spend at least a year here and go to the schools and churches and just talk to the kids and the parents and let them ask you questions and you answer them honestly..... Come and get to know the Filipino "not" the drunks, gamblers and dopers who would rather spend their money "or your money" on drinks instead of feed their wife and 17 kids (not all the same mother). hello,if you want to go in phillipines you need to prepare for adventure and its very nice beach resort.the men called pilipino,girl called pilipina,in phils. you will gonno experience the hospitality that you can not find to other country,its you can not spend too much money if you know how to hundle youre own.its very nice in some places like cebu,davao,olongapo,bohol,batangas and ect,..manila is the capital where its realy busy ,noisy,night life,crowded of people and building..but if you want to relax just go in sme places where i mention.thers a lot of bar and different resturant wich is not very expensive.they can speak english very well except to noneeducated person there but even do they can not speak they will gonno understand u.i think you will gonno enjoy to go in phils.

Dont even try to go there . They r worst people i ever seen even they use to catch a street cats and eat . shhhhhhh . Mr. Dont spoil ur vacation , time and money . Go to somewhere else where u can enjoy ..

The men are called "phillipino's" the women called "phillipina's"
It's hot and Manilla is dirty. The guards at the bank had machine guns. That's all I remember of my one day transit there ten years ago.
