YOu can put anything on a DVD-R. All kinds of video, all data, and all audio, of course your music won't play in a CD player, but otherwise it'll be great.

DVD-R is the media type. If your burner says that it burns DVD-R then that's what you buy however not all media from all manufacturers works well, or at all, with all dvd burners. This is a matter of trial and error to see which works well.

Other things to be careful of as well is the speed rating of the dvd media. If the dvd media is rated higher than your dvd burner's rated burning speed then you will not be able to burn with that media without a firmware update, if one exists.

You meant what kind of data (.exe .mp3 ... etc) anything can go there, only issue is "is this what you want to achieve?"

I'm using them as huge blank data CDs (just happen to be HUGE to 7 blanks combined) so anything I want can go there.
