Here are some measurements from Wikipedia:
"The galactic disk has an estimated diameter of about 100,000 light-years..."
"The galactic disk is surrounded by a spheroid halo of old stars and globular clusters approximately 250,000 to 400,000 light years in diameter."

The milky is around 100,000 light years across , which is a pretty big number when you think in terms of kilometers.
the halo of the milky is even bigger than the disk , and it would take a monstrously huge amount of time for humans to get out of the milky way on a spaceship.

It's big.
Really big.
I mean, you think walking down to the chemist at the bottom of the road is a long way but phew, that's nothing to how big the Milky Way is.

Distance of roughly 80,000 Lightyears, a light year is roughly 6 trillion miles. Even at the speed of light our sun is 8.3 light minutes away, and thats only 93 million miles away.
