I've often wondered the same thing. I don't do that. I think that some people do it because they can't decide which answer is best, so they just vote for the quickest answer.

Isn't it mandatory to wait four hours before choosing a best answer, anyway? The only time I've ever chosen the first answer was when the others matched it pretty much exactly, and I figured the first person to get it posted deserved the points.

I always wait a few days for a variety of answers, then pick the best. It doesen't matter if the person was first or not. It depends on what they had to say.

i wait a day or two first. and usually mine are not "in voting", only the ones i REALLY can't decide on or ones that are more like random polls that you would get many of the same answer on.

I select the best answer by content for my questions.
when voting for others, the firstis only selected when they are long tedious answers. only 1 point, time is points. eheheehehee
