Am I right? If so, how does smoking pot help you write music?

No, that's not something that you can generalize about.

Sure, some do. But there are many others who don't.

I dont think that MOST famous bands use pot to help them write, but Im sure that quite a few musicians do. It helps people relax, and apparently helps them see things from a different perspective, which helps them write something more creative.

By the same token, this is why many bands used LSD in the 60's & 70's, and why many English bands shot smack in the 80's. So I dont think that only pot could be classed as a drug that helps people write.

Also, it only helps some people. It makes me too lazy to write, so I dont bother. I write stone sober most of the time because I want it to be sharp. Occasionally Ill get inspired while drunk, but never on pot. Im sure many other muso's are the same.

And then, look at Minor Threat. They wrote heaps of music, and never touched a thing.

So it just depends on what helps you work the best.

That's a common misconception.

Pot just lowers your threshold for novelty, so everything seem new and interesting. When everything seems new and interesting, it's hard to tell what really is.

I know many creative people who were sure they'd had amazing original ideas while high---and later, found the ideas were quite mundane.

There's nothing wrong with appreciating everyday things, of course. But pot and creativity? Most of the time it's a disappointing prospect. (Having said that, maybe it explains why so much pop music is so ordinary!)

Real creativity is like love. You can't force it out, or take some kind of magic drug for it. It takes belief, trust, and patience. You must be willing to open yourself to your feelings and ideas without judging or criticizing yourself. And like Dorothy with the ruby slippers, you find the power was within you all along.

Yeh....among other drugs. It's really a simple concept...there's so much music out there. To write something serene, you definetly have to go outside of the box. Smoking pot helps your mind think about other aspects of things....instead of the same ol' aspects of the sober mind.

It makes for an impressive tale telling consultation - yet NO advertising your soul to the devil for musical attractiveness all started with the delta blues masters. (properly, for that count number it relatively is been a superstition during time in different international locations) undesirable, superstitious people who attributed organic expertise to different-worldly help. contained in the 20 th century, of maximum outstanding is, of course, Robert Johnson. (contained in the U. S. rock/pop worldwide) IF any of Robert Johnson's tale is actual, i'd say that he have been given the quick end of the stick and shorted out of any musical profession to warrant advertising your soul for. Chalk it to city fantasy and pass away it at that! have confidence me, you will sense better!
