I have seen many decades pass by my (now weary), eyes and I think there has always been concerns about bringing children into a world of uncertainty. But in the main the human spirit is biased towards optimism and nowhere was this more clearly evident than during World War II, when mothers (and fathers) considered the same question. Children are surprisingly resilient and most can take anything that is "thrown" at them and will go on to enjoy a good life. Three score and ten is the prescribed lifetime (now outdated), and I would recommend that you share as many of these as you can with a child (or chidren) that will call you Mum (or Dad).

No, you're not crazy, you're not the only one who's felt that way, and there are some nasty people in this world (and in Y/A; sorry about the turkeys).
Stephanie Mills, the class speaker in the 1969 Mills College graduation, had a controversial speech entitled "The future is a cruel hoax", where she expressed the feelings that the most humane thing to do was not to bear children at all. You can probably Google and find it online (no time to look up a link for you, sorry).
Myself?--decided some years ago that I'd be a truly horrible parent---so decided not to have 2-legged kids. (Being somewhat *afraid* of them also helped in the decision. We now have furchildren, and 2-legged nieces and nephews.)
Children are too damned precious to have on a whim, or to prove you're an adult, or to show virility, or to relive/recast your childhood, or to satisfy a religious demand, or as a Yuppie status toy.....Only ONE reason for having children, IMHO---you truly love kids and care for them and will love them, warts and all. VERY tough set of demands, especially when you realize it's an 18-year minimum no-cut contract.
I feel sorry for parents, now and in other times. Responsible parenthood has GOT to be a terrifying experience---but some people swear by the joys of it.
Definitely an individual's choice. For me, thank goodness for the Pill and for tubal ligations!

I think I understand what you mean, but you may think of two facts, that may seem irrelevant at first sight...
You cannot write easily the number of successful sexual acts (not necessarily wanted unfortuantely) that brought you on this world counting 6 generations ack (and that is only 150 years ago). The continuation of life is an enormous great proccess. As I am gay, I won't contribute to it, and will end this line, but it is my choice. Is it yours?
"Isms" are laregely result of this reproduction line and are the collective product to keep us in it.
You seems to bear no hope for the future f your child, but it seems also for your own future, and for the future of this world maybe? Why don't you give life to someone who will be able to live more freely than yourself, who will, unlike you, have parent that would not drawn him/her in the sea of ism...?

Go for it' have children. You are obviously someone who has thought deeply about the world's problems and you will instill this into your children. The world can be sordid (is on some occasions) but if you are going to bring up nice kids they can only have a positive effect on it. Sorry just realised you stipulated ladies.

You know i wonder the same thing myself. i was very sheltered and i was 20 when i was out the house. i am 22 and still to this day can't stand the way the world is. but i've come to see there is no way i can change it.
that's why even though i have a son; i pray i will be able to raise him the way i was. to know what evil is; but to do good to others. just teach them the 'golden rule' and i'm sure all will be fine.
it's the wars that i'm worried about too.
i also think the person above me is very true.

Maldito Perrito? Are you serious! How about Pincha Puerco!
Or maybe . . . Du bist ein echte Sheisskopf!
But you are a saint?
Don't be a dumbass! The number one problem in this world is that the eye looks outward from the head, rather than inward into the heart.
Your remark reflects your total obliviousness to the fact that you too indulge acts and thoughts of hatred and intolerance.
How righteous you must be to hate all of the bad people in the world. Everyone else is just bad, but you are good and good enough to know it.

Sometimes I worry the same way you do - but then i think that i have experienced all these things and if i do have children i will be able to teach them right from wrong - this is the only way the world will change i think - people who have experienced the hate and judgement teaching the next generation that its not the way.

I'm only 24 so who knows, but I really don't think I'll be having any.
Besides there are too many ppl on this planet already.

I think many people tend to think that way from time to time. Just remember that this world is the only world we have, and there are plenty of good people in it. Just raise your child to be one of those good people.
