I know touch me nots as a wild type of impatiens.. when you touch the seed pods, they 'explode' and the seeds go flying all over the place, that's why they are called 'touch me nots'. The impatiens I am referring to is not considered a weed. We planted it in the garden!
Since 'touch me not' is a common name, it is difficult to say because common names vary epending on where you are in the country. The answers listed by other people show this.. some people call it dandelion, some called it a type of fern, so depending on where those people live, that is what they know as 'touch me not'.
If you know the scientific name, that would help.

I agree with Plantmd, the names of plants do vary from place to place. However, "Touch-Me-Not" is listed as a common name for IMPATIENS , AKA Balsam or Snapweed. Also, there is a giant variety - 6 feet tall - that most people do consider as a weed. Tho I have grown it and enjoy it.

To humans, any plant that isn't useful will be considered a weed. For example, u have a perfect lawn of carpet grass, but suddenly u have got a patch of lalang (long grass) growing out of nowhere. that lalang will be considered a weed.
