I must have asked the question a bit wrong. (rx) is a component of a vector. So the equations I'm supposed to use to convert are:

x = rsin(theta)cos(phi)
y = sin(theta)sin(phi)
z = rcos(theta)

Sorry!

r = x^2 + y^2

so in order to get a specific x and y, you need to know the angle (theta) as well. Otherwise you just get a circle of possible answers.

You answered the question yourself. What is (rx)?
