I was just wondering because everyone on both sides of my family has blue eyes (except for a great-great-grandmother-which is apparently how I got my green eyes) I mean like everyone though! My aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, my brother, Everyone! and all my friend's seem to have either blue or brown eyes. So I want to know if having green eyes is a rare thing, or if somehow I just happen to not know anyone personally who has them.

I have green eyes, so now you know someone with green eyes. Yes they are rare, but consider yourself a very special and lucky person to be in that elite group of green-eyed babes!!!

I have green eyes , and I say no. While they aren't a dominant color it seems, I have one side of my family that seems to have that gene, but it's true I don't know many personally besides my uncle that have green eyes. There must be a lot of us out there, though.

I have a huge family and I'm the only one with a hint of green in the eyes. Hardly get noticed though after childhood.

I don't think there are many of us with true green eyes around. Being of Scots/Irish descent, everyone in my family has green eyes with the except of my youngest son whose eyes are hazel and my daughter whose eyes are blue. Both parents, siblings, older son, nieces and nephew have dark green eyes.

Most of my family has blue eyes...... actually I can't think of anyone who has green except for me, It's crazy now that I think about it. But I hope my kids get my eyes, and my husbands skin, he's hispanic and I think people who have bright green eyes and dark skin are beautiful!!! (not that I won't think they aren't anyways) (if and when i have kids)

green eyes aren't necessarily rare. i would think that hazel eyes are more rare because they require a mutation in the genetic code. the way eye color works is through multiple alleles. let's say that your mom and dad each give you 5 genes for eye color. if the gene is dominant your eyes will be darker and if its recessive, then it will be lighter.

Seems as you're meeting a few people with green eyes here, as I do also.
