Pros:
- Increase to the size of the New Zealand economy.
- Allows New Zealand citizens access to the profitable resource markets Australia is cashing in on at the moment. (Iron, Coal etc. etc. etc.)
- Instant boost to the population Peter Costello is pushing at the moment.
Cons:
- Australian culture would eventually swallow and destroy distinct Kiwi cultural differences especially down south, due to the larger size of Australian culture.
- Cross Tasman rivalry is more fun when it's a different country.
- No more Tri-Nations rugby.
- Administration of 4 Million people at such a distance away would be very expensive, and hard to manage from Canberra.

Con: I would no longer be able to have dual citizenship (my mum is a kiwi and my dad is an aussie) because both my parents would be Austrazealandish.
I've never actually thought what it would be like if Australia and New Zelanad became one country.
What I have wondered is why they don't develop a single currency...It could be called the Anzac Dollar. It would be more valuable than the current Australian Dollar because two countries would be using the same one (Much like how the Euro became a powerful currency when Europe decided to use one currency.)

If you believe the New Zealanders, then the pro for Australia would be that our IQ would go up, they seem to believe they are more intelligent than us.
Otherwise, the combined economy might help both countries, but would certainly help New Zealand.
I suspect though that there would be strong opposition to this happening.

Pro - New Zealand has produced some great talent and instead of stealing them and calling them Australian, they actually would be.
Con - A lot of Aussies brag about their holiday to New Zealand. If we were one, where would they go?
