And why is it that we don't seem to care if we are the fattest people in the world? Being the obese nation is not something to be proud of.

Because the US has become so affluent, people have more money to spend on food, as well as entertainment and travel. It seems as if the better a food tastes, the worse it is healthwise . People don't generally spend a lot of time looking at the nutritional label on each product to see what good or bad ingredients the product has; as a result they end up eating foods that are no good for them , in this instance calorywise.

True. But the same can be said about my fellow Canadians and England.

The world in general is getting fatter. Sadly. Fast food is cheaper than fruits and veggies and many people can't afford them or are too busy.

=) Least I'm thankful to say that I am nowhere near overweight.

Oh wake up. All of the other countries that have allowed Mickey D's and other fast food chains into their nations are now suffering from the same issues as Americans are.

Pampered, lazy, no sense of self worth, no sense of goals, want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Also, we have grown into a civilization that would rather drive half a block than walk. That can be traced back to more threats of violence walking in your neighborhood and everyone is now paranoid to step out the door.

Too many convenience foods at our fingertips, even in the grocery stores. Nobody has to work at making a meal anymore. And meals that are provided are so high in fat and are full of refined sugars and flours and so many wrong things for our bodies.
It is sad that our country has resigned itself to being this way. We need a lot of changes.
But we do need to remember to be respectful and accepting of those who are overweight. They are people too, no matter what.

Technology, fast food, inactivity, complacency, laziness, depression...take away cars & computers & we lose at least 30 lbs. Close down McD's & we lose another 30. How many people take a walk & eat an apple in a day? How many drive (even 2 minutes away & scarf down a burger?...)

Look at the food choices we have. Anything fast is nothing but empty calories. With our life-style --eating healthy can be a chore. Plus our jobs are becoming more and more desk types--so even when we work--we really do nothing!
