A very good definition of nation goes like this
" a group of humans, that live together, and feel the bindings of being together because of common culture, society, lively hood, geography, REMEMBRANCE OF WOUNDS SUFFERED COMMONLY, religion and so on...the more the number of such binding forces the better crafted the nation is. THOUGH, the strength of nationality is not in the numbers of these binding forces ...rather the STRENGTH of one or more of them."

911 was not only a terrible tragedy. It is also a total disgrace to this country. It could have and should have been prevented from ever happening. This country was caught with its pants down. It makes my blood boil whenever I talk about it so let me just say this. 911 did not bring this country together. It destroyed so many lives in so many ways. Their losses are permanent. The people of New York brought their people together like never before. Theres nothing temporary about it.

I totally agree with you! I hate to say this, because everyone will attack me (excuse the unintended pun) but we almost need another 9/11 because the US has become so complacent once again. I am NOT a cold-hearted liberal, but I AM making a point!

But the point is that we did unite. For the first time regardless of race or color we united against a common foe. That was the first time that I was really proud to be an American

It's common biology--people unite in times of strife. People who generally seem complacent and uninterested will help their fellow man in times of crisis. Look at how people helped in the south for the hurricane (and I am talking average citizen here, not govt.). It is in our make up to be compassionate. That's just how it is.

No, we're more divided than ever. We came together as one for a few days afterwards, but then it was back to the mud slinging.
