Every morning I would take my prenatal vitamin, but I was afraid I wasn't getting anything out of it because I had morning sickness and would throw it back up. So I started taking it at night before I went to bed, but now, my morning sickness has changed to bedtime sickness and I feel great in the mornings. Why is the vitamin making me sick and has this happened to anyone else? How can I make this stop?

Definitely talk to your doctor first about this. I think all of us who have been pregnant and taken prenatal vitamins know how they can cause nausea. Eat breakfast first and then take your vitamin. Never take a prenatal vitamin or any vitamin for that matter on an empty stomach. It will make you nauseous. Also, be sure you are not taking your vitamin with orange juice on an empty stomach. Orange juice is great because it contains a lot of folic acid, important during pregnancy, but O.J. on an empty stomach will also make you nauseous. Make sure you are eating enough throughout the day. Watch for any foods that upset your stomach and avoid them. I didn't have big problems with morning sickness, but when I did experience it, I began to have a yogurt before bedtime and would nibble on a few crackers as soon as I woke up. I did not leave my stomach empty for too long. You may also have to try a different vitamin. That is why you should seek the advice from you doctor. But definitely ask girlfriends if they found one vitamin worked better for them than another. I used a prescription prenatal vitamin. Good Luck!

With my first son my prenatal vitamins made me sick as well. The bes thing to do is take flinstone vitamins 2 of them each day and it will be just like taking a prenatal vitamin and it will settle with your stomach a lot better. If you have to take one in the morning and then one at night.

you can do a couple things.. depending on how far along u are .. if you are still on your 1st trimester I would either hold off in taking the prenatal vitamins until the nauseousness goes way or you can also try a diff kind of prenatal vitamins and see if it makes a difference.. Iam due in 10 days and I had to stop taking my prenatal for the 1st 4 & 1/2 mos then when i started taking it again I take them at night cuz I hate the after taste and also it makes me burp and I dont like it either..

good luck ..

Try switching brands of prenatal vitamins. I had to go through 3 different brands of vitamins during my first pregnancy before I found a formulation that didn't make my morning sickness worse.

You can also try vitamin B-6 which supposedly helps with morning sickness, although it didn't help me.

I got so sick while on the prenatal vitamins I ended up in the er. My obgyn told me to stop taking them and start taking something easy like a Flintstone vitamin, or even chew on some Tums or Rolaids. GOOD LUCK !!!!!

Does your vitamin include an iron supplement? The extra iron sometimes tends to make us queasier. I switched to a prenatal vitamin that was labeled "without iron" and just tried to eat more leafy green veggies and beans, then switched over to "with iron" vitamins later on in my pregnancy when I didn't have morning sickness so bad.

Also make sure to mention it to your doctor. She may have other suggestions!

My prenatal vitamins make me really sick too. I was so queasy my doctor actually told me to hold off on taking my prenatals for awhile and replace them with other vitamins.

Take it not "right" before you go to bed but like 30 min and eat a half of banana or something else semi lite... Drink a lot of water too. Not just with the vitamin but thru your whole pregnancy.

My doctor told me to take a multi vitamin and extra folic acid before bed...

Talk to your doctor, of course.

But mine said that the prenatals have way more than you need. Of couse, when the nausea went away, I went back onto them... But that was well into the second trimester.

I was told by my doctor that the prenatal pills that they sell over the counter have cheaper iron and that causes a lot of women to react poorly to them. Try getting the prescription prenatals, they have better quality iron and more of a coating for you stomach. Hope this helps.
