In the process of photosynthesis, light is absorbed by a photosystem to begin an energy-producing reaction. Two types of photosystems exist: photosystem I (P700) and photosystem II (P680). These are their differences:
Photosystem I (P700)
1) Absorption spectrum peaks at 700 nanometers
2) Uses FERREDOXIN-LIKE IRON-SULFUR cluster proteins as terminal electron acceptors
Photoexcited electrons travel to photosystem I through an electron transport chain set in the thylakoid membrane. This energy fall is harnessed, (the whole process termed chemiosmosis), to transport H+ ions through the membrane to provide a proton-motive force to generate ATP. If electrons only pass through once, the process is termed noncyclic photophosphorylation. When the electron reaches photosystem I it fills the electron deficit of the reaction-centre chlorophyll of photosystem I. The deficit is due to photo-excitation of electrons which are again trapped in an electron acceptor molecule.
Photosystem II (P680)
1) Absorption spectrum peaks at 680 nanometers (red part of the spectrum)
2) Shuffles electrons to a QUINONE terminal electron acceptor
When photosystem II absorbs light, electrons in the reaction-centre chlorophyll are excited to a higher energy level and are trapped by the primary electron acceptors. To replenish the deficit of electrons, electrons are extracted from water (either through photolysis or enzymatic means) and supplied to the chlorophyll.
** Historically photosystem I was named one since it was discovered before photosystem II but this does not represent the order of the electron flow. **

In Photosystem II - the electrons are sent down the electron transport pathway.
Also in this stage~Water is split~electron transport takes place~Produces ATP~
In Photosystem I - the electrons are picked up by NADP+
Also~NADPH is produced~NADPH releases H+ and e-~

i remember photosystem are the arrangment of some specialised cell whih can capture light.
p1 and pll are those. pl is p700 and pll is p690 .700 is the wave length .
pl can capture light of w length 700.
photosynthesis is proces in which plant make food by water light ect

1. function: PSII contains the water splitting complex, and serves to convert the light energy into chemical E of reducing equivalents (H+ & e-) that are extracted from water. PSI servs to convert the light energy into potential (chemical) energy of the reducing equivalents, so they can be transported to coenzyme NADP+.
2. structure: PSI and PSII are composed of different proteins, pigments and cofactors. They have different photoreaction centers, absorbing maximally at 680 nm (for PSII) or 700 nm (for PSI)
