do u mean calamine lotion? calamine lotion is ok. u could also try a thin layer of hydrocortisone 1% cream.
it probably isn't necessary to go to the doctor right away. however if u have persistent or worsening rashes, check it out with a doctor.
fyi- in general, if u apply some cream/ointment to unbroken skin, then there will be limited absorption...so ur baby won't get affected. it's the oral meds u need to worry more about.

Many women get a pregnancy rash that occurs on their stomach nearer the end of pregnancy. If you do get a pregnancy rash on your stomach:

Don't scratch at it too much as this can tear the skin
Ask your doctor or midwife if there is anything you can take to ease the itching
If itching becomes severe, or you develop jaundice (yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes), see your doctor as soon as possible.

Ugh! I had the worst rash on my belly - you definitely have to check with your doc, but mine basically said there was not much I could do... I tried lotions, he told me to stop the lotions... Neither worked. I just tried to keep it cool. Slept in as little as possible at bed time and tried to have the blankets everywhere but my belly. I did use Eucerin cream (you know, the thick stuff in the jar), and that did okay, but the flare ups were terrible. I feel for you... Hopefully when the weather cools down outside, it will go away for you. Mine was definitely worse in the heat (hence the reason my second child was born in January). But, no guarantees.

HAve you been to your doc? My cousin had that rash and her doc told her that it was so dangerous that she had to be induced! Now I know that women get pregnancy rashes that aren't life threatening but before you put stuff on it go to your doc or womens clinic!
