A deer. It just stared at me by the side of the road for a moment, then practically sprang right in front of my poor little Nissan Sentra. There was incoming traffic and no shoulder, so I just had to ram right into it. I was going about 60 mph. It went BAM! into my hood, and the next thing I know, there's smoke and steam everywhere, and I am struggling to keep the car on the road. I pull over and there's fluid all over the place. Eventually, an appraiser deemed that my car was totaled. The deer was never found, incidentally....I figure the poor animal landed in a neighboring state.

Unfortunately a very large kangaroo, lucky I had a bull bar installed, but it was very upsetting.
The thing with roos is they always seem to leap across the orad in pairs, so you know that when you've seen one, another is not far behind.
There is a saying in Oz "don't worry about the first one, just watch out for the second one".
You always have to check their pouches if you have the misfortune to hit a kangaroo as sometimes they could be carrying a joey (baby) and it will need to be taken to a wildlife sanctuary to be reared properly.

Sorry about your friend. I hit a bear on my way to work one night a few years back. The night was black, the road was black and the bear was black. Wham! Good news, I was driving the Intrepid and got very little damage. The airbag didn't even deploy. If I was driving my Cavalier, I would have been a goner.

I hit a hippopotamus once when I was driving in my honda civic. It totaled my car and the airbag gave me two black eyes.
I killed a neighbor's dog which I went into deep remorse for and hit plenty of racoons when out drinking on country roads with my friends but that was on purpose.

It's a toss up. I hit a moo cow and a horse within the span of a couple of months back when I was in high school. Fouled up a date both times.

I have hit three animals that I can remember. I once hit a squirrel. I cried. I once hit a kitten. I bawled for hours. I once hit a bird on the highway when it flew into me. Dumb bird.

a big black dog. it was a puppy. it was about 20 yeas ago and it was dark out. i couldn't see the poor dog. it had no color on him. i picked him up and he died in my arms. so i brought him to the police station and they told me that since i picked him up they wouldn't take him and have the crew who would normally take road kill and do what they do with the animals. so i said what should i do with him i can't flush him down the toilet. so i gave him a good burial in my back yard. now I'm happy that they didn't get their hands on him,

I hit a raccoon that was bigger than my 78 pound dog and it got up, looked at me like it wanted to bite my head off and walked into the woods. I was freaking out cause I stopped to look and see what was so big I hit and it was just like staring at me, I was so freaked out, never seen a raccoon that big before...then it tore off my bumper
