Get into a routine for all nap and bedtimes. It will take a little while for your baby to adjust but they will recognize the steps of the routine pretty quickly. Most babies do fuss a little before they fall asleep, they are just releasing any adrenaline they may still have. My suggestion is to read the book "The Baby Whisperer". I feel it is the BEST baby book out there.

Lay down with your baby; sleep with your baby. Having you close to your baby helps a million times over. They are used to your smell, your sounds, your heartbeat, your heat, your everything.
You are their main protector and provider and you're all they know and want.
It will comfort your baby.
Mine is still in bed with me at 6 months. My oldest I moved out by now only because she was ready for it and slept through the night for a good 1 1/2 after that. This one was preemie so she'll be in bed with me a little longer. She sleeps better with me, of course!

First off, what have you tried and how old is your baby?
I just read an EXCELLENT book called "No Cry Sleep solution".
Not sure if you are for or against the "crying it out" method. But this book gives an alternative to the cry it out method (I am against it personally - I would much rather tend to my baby then let him cry it out).
But it gives some great pointers on there...
One thing to try would be maybe a pacifier or rocking.

Rocking! It's great when their babies! Invest in a good rocking chair! If that doesn't work then car rides are good. The only problem with riding in a car (besides the fact that gas is 2.41) is that you have to take them out of the car seat eventually! Good Luck!
