I live in Northern Illinois. Today, I noticed a huge spider hanging in a web outside my house. I have never seen a spider quite like this one. Being a man who is intrigued by this sort of thing, I wish to find out exactly what kind of spider it is. I have been browsing the internet and I cannot seem to find a ste that can help me.

Does anyone out there know where I can go online to find out exactly what kind of spider this is? If so, the website must be available for me to pin-point the exact spider by location.

Can you help me?

It would help to have some description of the
spider. The other answerers are right that it is
probably an araneid. If it is black and yellow it
is doubtless Argiope aurantia. If it is mostly brown
it is likely to be Neoscona crucifera (called Neoscona hentzi until recently). At this time of
year the Neoscona especially is likely to turn up in
webs on houses.

You can go online at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiders to do some research on spiders.
