Of course it is.
That is why history is such a contentious issue - particularly how it is taught in schools.
I think history is the study of INTERPRETATION of FACTS, and it is important to teach all sides of it so we can make an informed decision on what we believe.
We don't have to look far to see that, as Australians. I know I was taught only the white history of our country - it wasn't until I did my university degree that I saw there was a whole other side to it.

Not long ago I saw a piece on television about trying to get a more complete picture of the Native Americans near Plymouth, MA at the time of the Pilgrims.
It was noted that if enough versions of history are presented there probably eventually reveals some common things that make it clear about what is true.
I don't think history has always been objective, but I think people are trying now to correct that.

No.
I know its impossible... well if those passengers on the plane that hit the
tower in 9/11 were to write what happened...
Of course the little details they would write according to what they saw... "events viewed by different people"
No individual would see the same thing. Even in a police investigation.
BUT the FACT doesnt change... collectively the plane was hijacked, hit the tower and exploded people died...that was real...
It's a fact. it happened. Because of eyewitnesses accounts.
We are the eyewitnesses to it.
But then again... who knows 1,000 years from now.. some one would ask the same question...

If it is a study of interpretations, then it is a study of convenient omission. In Japanese history classes not much, if anything, is mentioned about Pearl Harbor, but a lot of time is spent on a couple of rather famous bombings. Is that a 'fair representation?' And that is the LOSERS history, not the winner's.
Some of us are trying to change this trend. History needs to be studied to get a fair idea of where we've been and where we are going. Some of us are trying to do just that . . . present ALL history, complete with warts.

History, while trying to be objective is very subjective. The historian brings their personalities, feelings, prejudices, backgrounds, and P.O.V's to any observed historical situation. This effects how history is told, reported or written about. Consider: a US Vietnam Vet would tell the history of the war very differently than a Vietnamese refugee.

Definately - no one is going to teach their children that they were a cruel bunch of losers. But most subjects taught in school will be taught towards the bias of the teacher (if they are a greenie, or a staunch political person or whatever).

It has been said that history is written by the winners, and I believe that to be very much the case.
In point of fact, because we are subjecive critters, the study of anything is, and must by definition be, subjective.

it has often been said that the biggest problem with history is that it is written by historians.
and that is very true....
every person comes to their conclusions through a whole range of tinted lenses.
history can never be objective... because it is written by people... and people have morals, values, beliefs, understandings, and emotions as well as experiences that all tint the things we observe and record.
