I have to agree with policegirl. It's not good to get involved with someone at work. What happens if you break up with bad feelings? You still have to face him at work. That would be very awkward. What happens if one of you gets a promotion and becomes the supervisor of the other? A lot of companies don't allow this. One of you would have to transfer to another department or maybe quit.
You can't argue with the fact that he said he has a girlfriend. Even if he doesn't, he said it for a reason. It means he thinks it's best if the two of you didn't get involved.

Let it go, Lewie! He's already said he has a girlfriend; and if it's not true, he's using this as an excuse to stay clear of you. Relationships at work are not good ideas anyway. The next thing you know, everyone will be talking about you and one of you will lose your job. Just be nice and stop expecting him to ask for a date. No dating in the office keeps peace at work.
