I am assuming English is not your first language. "Shed a few tears" is a play on words. If you say shed a few cheers, it probably means he was happy she wanted a divorce and went to the bar to celebrate. We say "cheers" to people around us before in a toast fashion before consuming a drink during a celebration.
Cheers!
