Lucky You!!! I was not going to respond to this question, but when I seen all the other answers,I decided to help you out.Find out who the clerk of court is,first. Then give them a call on the phone, using their first name, say "Michelle, this is{your name}and I just got called for jury duty and you know mama[or someone]in your family, they are needing me really something bad right now,and this is really going to make things bad for us,is there anyway I could be excused from this duty ?"Now if they ask,who is this, just recite, who you are and your family,"You know John Smith's daughter?"They will say oh yes,I know who you are now,and what did you say the problem is?Well like I said earlier, you know mom has been sick and there is no one else to take care of her right now and I really need to be excused at this very difficult time in our lives. Now I would suggest,to think of someone in your family that has really been sick, and use their name. Most of the time they really don't care.If everyone had an excuse the system would not work. But since you asked.I do not practice, lying so try as much as you can to stick to the truth. There really is no good way to do it.I have a personal relationship with our clerk of court, just in case something like this pops up.But she got me good in 2005,she excused me,for the short term cases, and in about 6 months later I got a supena,to be on the Grand Jury.Wow i felt honared, but guess what, when they get you for that, instead of serving,1 week,I had to serve for I whole year to the day!!!Talk about being on jury duty,a year, thousand of cases.Think about it!!Well Good Luck and God Bless America!

One person I know, looks at the person accused and says, I think he's guilty. The judge may question you further and ask why. Think about the case and tell them why you are convinced of this.
A former co-worker of mine always did this every time he got called for jury duty.

Wow! We have the same face!
Yes, I got called by jury service last year and I got out of it cause I had school...So if your a student or you cannot afford to leave work you can hopefully get exempt, at least thats how it was in a court in los angeles.

We need intelligent people on our juries. If you have a good reason for not being there, then they should excuse you.

Sit with your arms crossed a definite sign that you have already made up your mind. If they ask you questions about being fair and impartial tell them who ever has the best lawyer or which ever lawyer goes to lunch with the judge will win....Worked for me......

When you get to the selection process, just keep repeating FRY HIM FRY HIM. They will probably get you excused. Otherwise, you could make a phone call, and tell them a lie.

Hardship, inconvenience or public necessity, or if you are the sole caretaker for a disabled person, or if you are breastfeeding.
But the laws vary by state.
