I was a soldier and it altered my world and I found my unit sent in 2 weeks to Kuwait to prepare for Iraq invasion, then found myself in middle east for 2.5 years and got out when they wanted me to go yet again irregardless of the state of my health or family, 'git er dun' and I decided not to re-up and get out honorably after 6 tours and rotations of middle east

now out and did not finish federal service but no one wants war baggage and people with issues or PTSD

how did it affect you, if at all?

I don't think it affected anybody that wasn't actually there or was a solider throughout it all. People don't look at things that way. I felt bad and everything but it didn't alter my life in any dramtic way. It made me want to watch the news a little more and I lost my respect for the government and what this country was supposed to do for us. Only because I believe that the people in the white house new what was happening and got away from the target areas. I think that we should have been on guard a lot better and I think that the government is resposible for all the tragedy that it caused all those people, fathers, mothers, children, wives, husbands, parents, etc. I think they are being tougher on imagrants too now days. Although I think it is the iranians and the palesitinas that we should be worried about instead of the mexicans. (Just my therory on that one let's not get into that) But I think that the government failed us bad. I am sorry that you are having the trouble that you are. I have known a lot of people that have had to deal with the Iraq thing and I know from what they have said that it was hard on everybody. Antoher thing that we really shouldn't to have had to go through. We shoulda sent Bush over there to fight his own battle. (sorry got off again) Anyways keep lookign something is bound to turn up for you. Don't think that for one second that anything that God brings you to he won't see you through. This is just a part of your story.

One of the reasons my son enlisted was 9/11. So it did affect me. I also live about 60 miles away, so I know I great deal of people that were impacted, form dying to having lost family members or seeing it.

Now you sound like you took a beating, I assume that you got disability? Hopefully 100%. Have you been going for therapy?

I would think you can get a job, a prospective employer can not ask you about PTSD or any other medical problems. And right now our military is certainly be treated with more respect then after Viet Nam?

I would like to Thank you for what you did for all of us. Am I safe in assuming that you were a Marine? That is a tough life, they are a tough outfit. Please take care of yourself and your family.

It obviously did not alter my life as drastically as it did yours. But I was alone at home with my 2 young sons and my husband called from Boston (we live in Grand Rapids, MI) to tell me to turn on the tv (yes, believe it or not, I'm a housewife who doesn't watch daytime tv) anyway, I was very petrified of a nuclear war being triggered that morning...like an apocalypse. As I watched people plummet to their death and knowing that thousands died in planes alone across the country, I wept and cried, knowing that each person had a mother who nurtured and loved them from birth. Each person had someone out there who had their whole life centered around them. I missed my husband like air at that point, but he could not be anywhere near me because of circumstances. I really felt unprotected...my most basic need as a woman.

I live in New York- several friends and family were killed 9/11. My NYPD and FDNY friends went to dozens of funerals.

Since that day, New York hasn't felt safe for many of us- although the flashbacks, or fear of sudden noises might be alleved, I still have dread of an attack any day. Depression is the norm, not the exception.

I'm furious funding was pulled from NY to prevent attacks. We are sitting ducks here.

Wow that sucks man. Really. I feel bad for you. I'm shipping in December myself. What do you mean no one wants war baggage? Veterans get preferential treatment in all federal hiring process. You should land a job with any police dept. or even FBI.

no not in the long run
except for that i felt safer before being in america on american soil
like thatd never happen here

that night i was terrified wed be occupied by sunset
it was nuts
i remember being really nervous about planes overhead for a long while after- like "that sounds too close, doesnt it? thats too loud!" all the time
also my sons birthday
he was a scheduled c section two years ago and they unwittingly scheduled me for the eleventh, then realized and chabnged it to the twelfth
the doctor was like " i dont think you wanna ahve he baby on september eleventh, do you?" so we changed it to the next day

it lowered my opinion of politicians even more. that's for sure. it also lowered my opinion of religious extremists even more.

i was also somewhat proud of those who showed love in NYC after all that instead of turning it into a riot.

however it also lowered my opinion of americans in general as they seemed to have forgotten that love shortly afterwards and went right back to the way they were before, only now more scared and sheeplike for the government.

it horrified and angered me.

i felt like it was Pearl Harbor but we watched it live on TV.

the more i learned about the people jumping out of the WTC, the "immigrant students" and al qaida the more angry and violated i felt.

i also felt depressed.

thank you for serving our country.
