For the sake of this conversation, let's say you really have no choice but to have a minimum of $5K and your income is $3K. You are short $2K, that is an average of $500 per week after tax. What can you do for $500 a week or $100 a day for normal business days take home pay?

1. You can work as a bartender at night, in addition to what I am assuming is your day job.
2. Get a new job that pays you base salary and commission of a $80K a year job, remember you have to pay taxes.
3. If you own a home, rent out your house for the mortgage payment and go rent a smaller place. This gives you the opportunity to gain equity and still right off a loss.
4. You are going to have to look at long term and reduce your expenses and expenditures.
5. Ask for a promotion.
6. Ask for a raise.
7. If you are married, have your spouse share in the negative you have a month by both getting better or secondary jobs.
8. Downsize.

Good luck!

So, you need $5000 since you can cut $1500 off...you have to do that. I'll bet you could cut some more too. I am guessing (since you didn't share) that this is a sudden drop in income due to some unforeseen circumstance. The one thing you should always, always do is pay your mortgage. Credit card companies can be called and explain you will pay what you can until you get another job (or whatever the circumstance might be). Turn your thermostat down and wear a sweater. Budget your food to cut costs way down. Get a part time job if possible. Cut out the newspaper, cable, cell phones, whatever you can live without. Have a yard sale. Sell on eBay. Call all of your creditors and explain the problems, don't just ignore them. They will try to work with you when they can. If you have lots of debt, go to one of those credit counseling services (make sure it's legit). Try to barter. Offer babysitting for plumbing services, etc. Good luck.

If you are working 40 hours a week and earning $3,000 a month, then you'll need to work another 50 or so hours each week. Good thing there are 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week (that's 168 hours).

I think your best way solution may be a compromise (earn more AND spend less).

heh. Ahh. You're a perfect example of a consumer oriented materialistic American.

Live within your means. Get rid of those high monthly payments, Sell the ****, and buy within your means.

Or end up broke and working 2-3 jobs to pay for the crap that you don't even have time to enjoy.

cut back on the expenses. start looking up stuff on frugal living. give up a vehicle if necessary. move to a cheaper place if necessary. sell stuff you have to get you started. reevaluate your needs vs gotta haves. this is where pride has to be tamed and you do what you have to do. i can't imagine 5000 a month expenses. to me that would be living lavishly. and i don't live bad at all. 3000 a month and i'd feel rich!

I think you'll find, that if you try hard enough, you can lower the expenses to 3000. But you might not enjoy doing it. Start selling stuff on ebay.

You need to cut back on items purchased. It does not matter how much money you are making, but how you spend your money. Go to a different place to buy food. List all of your expenses and figure out how you can cut costs. Contact me!
