the questions i answer on here, i answer because i have done it ,and im sure of what im saying,i wish everyone was that way, when you convince someone that you know that the answer your giving is a good as you can give, that person will feel the answer is right, its very sad that often people pick the wrong answer and it winds up costing them money because of someome else,s lack of knowledge

Well DM,I have thought the same question over and over. Some of the answers were obvious shots from the hip. And were clearly either wrong, of didn't READ the whole question.
I'm with you.
I have been into wrenches, Big-Rigs, emissions and the like for years. Sometimes maybe I don't fully understand the "TXT TYPNG" shorthand, or the grammar, but like you my answers are thoughtful and based on nearly 50 years experience.
The only thing I can think of is that it IS the points, although I don't know why. You can take 10,000 of 'em to 7-11, and along with a dollar, you can get a hot cup of coffee. And they will let you put cream and sugar in it too!
I really don't know what gives.
Have a good week

There are people who don't know, but think they do. The world is full of them. And many of them are on Yahoo Answers giving advice with the best of intentions.
Then there are people who come on this forum thinking the information here is always valid. I would like to believe the conflicting opinions found here would give the reader a clue that everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt, or at least checked out elsewhere.
Not sure who should be identified as dumb, and who should be identified as dumber--the person who thinks he knows what he's talking about, or the person who thinks the other person input is valid every time.
Incidentally, I've come to realize that it's not all about the points. You need to earn points to be able to ask questions, but if you run out of points, you can still ask. Your point quantity just becomes a negative number.
PS: Claiming that you failed (or lost money) because of someone else's lack of knowledge is the same as saying that you failed (or lost money) because of your own lack of knowledge. It differs only in the sense that you are trying to blame someone else rather than take responsibility for your own mistake or lack of knowledge.

The points mean nothing to me. I only poke around here from time to time to see if I can help someone out. If I do not know the answer in 100% clarity and certainty I will say nothing. It is very aggravating when people who think they know everything when they actually are not knowledgeable about a subject and post incorrect information only for it to be spread like wildfire. In the end you get a bunch of misinformed people who no have to be re-taught.

Ever thought that most people feel that they are giving useful answers. I only answer when I feel I have something to contribute if I am looking for points I will answer survey and poll questions. Maybe from your position of being correct you fail to recognise the experiences of others.

I agree with you. It irritates me more when someone answers a question directly after you, and mentions that you are wrong and that they are right, when you know FOR A FACT that you are correct. That's why I almost always put a website after my responses. So that the questioner can have some sort of idea on who's right or wrong.

You need to get questions answered by adults. I feel the same way, But you have to know that most of these answers are from adolescent kids.
