Yes. Now high tail it to your local highschool completion program at the alternative highschool. Or go to your community college's high school completion program. Since you are seventeen, your high school completion program will still be free. Do not delay! The longer you stay out of school the more difficult it will be for you to return.
You could also join the JOB CORPS to get your HS diploma and learn a solid trade!

Jobs like fastfood restaurants should not be hard to obtain, but you won't be able to support yourself. You need to find a way to get back into school and get your diploma. Minimum wage is about all you will be able to get for awhile. If you can get your GED and then get on somewhere to learn a trade, that would be your best bet if you just can't stand the school setting. But to try and make it in this world without even a highschool education is a risk an intelligent person doesn't take.
You obviously haven't been out in the real world and absorbed the reality of what it takes to make a living. Typically you won't be able to pay even the crappiest apartment rent, pay utilities, and buy food with a 40 hour a week McDonalds job frying fries. Is minimum still about $5 an hour? Think about it that's only $200 a week before taxes probably around $150-$170 after taxes. That's less than $600 a month. You can't pay rent with that. Then how are you going to buy food, pay the lightbill, waterbill, electric, cable, insurance, gas for the car, a car payment, clothes, hygiene products......
Get back in school. Anyway you can!!!!!!! Get back in school and go to college if you want the best chances for yourself and any family you may have some day.
Quit thinking about yourself and the now. Think about 10 years from now. Think about a wife, some kids. Think about what you want out of life. Tough it out and suffer now because what you suffer now is so insignificant compared to what you suffer as an unprepared, uneducated, broke adult. Suck it up and go back to school. Figure out a way. Make it your mission to succeed and not be a quitter.
Quitters never win. Winners never quit.
It's true more often than not.

Find jobs that offer incentives of paying for education. Or, get a GED. It's hard to get a job with an advanced college degree, let alone without a high school diploma. Anyone can flip burgers and it's a totally legitimate way to earn a living. But, the best you'll do, and without a high school diploma it'll be rough, you might make manager. It's hardly enough to live on - get that HS Diploma or GED and think about going to a technical school to learn a trade.

Yes it will be hard to even get a job in a fast food restaurant especially if you live in an area with high unemployment.
I've worked in human resources for many years prior to returning to college for my degree. One reason high school dropouts don't get very many options for jobs is that the big red flag runs through our mind. If this person quits school, how do we know when things get bad on the job that they won't quit without notice? We hire the person who is most likely to be successful in that position.
Trust me, no matter how bad school is, it is not worth losing the opportunities for a better paying job. What would it take for you to return to school and get your diploma or a G.E.D.?
Think about what your situation will be when you are 30 or 40, do you want to work at a fast food restaurant the rest of your life? They very rarely will promote people without at least a high school diploma.
BUT HERE"S THE GOOD NEWS
Let's say you do apply for work, the worst that will happen is a "no" answer. Butg you cannot get to a "we want to hire you" without at least attempting to apply.
When you apply, dress appropriately (like what you would wear to church, not a suit, but a step higher than t-shirt and blue jeans, dress neatly, be pleasant, make sure you have all of your info with you, including dates of previous jobs, and take a pen with you. Also your references including addresses and phone numbers.
If they ask you questions, focus your answers on what you can do for them, not on what you want. That shows you are there to help out the company. That, is your best option in order to get a job.

Yes it is difficult. even fast food restaurants want you to have a high school education. Get your GED and go to the community college. Financial aid is available for the asking. As a matter of fact start at the community college. most of them will guide you with the GED. just go to the admissions office and fill out the school application. they can't keep you out. they will give you a test.this test is only for placement purposes. not to disqualify you from the school. then you will go see a counselor and then to the financial aid office. go for it don't be afraid, today you are paid to go to school. also when you fill your financial aide paper out it will ask you do you want work study. mark yes. this is work around the school that pay you so many hours a month.

About the only job you will ever get is at restaurants and other menial task jobs. In terms of a good job it will never happen without education. You need to seriously quit being stupid and get back in school. If you have problems in school there are many ways to help yourself such as tutoring, guidance counselors, etc. The average high school drop-out will earn over a $1,000,000 less than a college graduate in a lifetime. Don't be a fool get back in school and graduate.

Yes, it does matter. You might not really care much about it now, but even five years from now it will make a huge difference. If nothing else, at least go and get your GED. That way if and when you decide that you're ready to do anything more schoolwise, you will at least be able to do that. You don't want to be 25 or 30, ready to grow up and make something of your life, only to be held back by mistakes that you made when you were younger.

It still isn't too late for you bud. Get your butt back into school! Even if you go nights to earn a GED, it will be worth it for you in the long run. Why did you drop out in the first place? Without some kind of diploma, you will be lucky to even get a job flipping burgers. Try hard, you can do it. Ok? My own son quit, and I talked him into returning. Now he thanks me every single time we talk. He is currently a boss in a big company. Please let me know how you do with this. Ok?

No. The education qualification is just a ticket for getting the job, after that everything depends on your working attitude and your personal belief. If you are hardworking and friendly, you are on your way to success. I guess it is not difficult to find a job as a waitperson in a restaurant.
Good luck.
