I would tell him why I think he should have resigned after the NHL lockout was resolved. How much I think he is an idiot who should never have had anything to do with the wonderful sport of hockey. I would also tell him that in order for the NHL to have any hope of attracting additional fans, they need to market themselves a lot more than they already do. Look at how well the NFL, NBA, and MLB market themselves. Then I would kick him in his non-existent balls.

I would say get the season started earlier, so we don't have the Stanley Cup finals stretching into June. Major-junior starts this week, why does the NHL leave it so late? I'm in the mood to see some hockey now. Another thing I would suggest is reduce the number of pre-season games, the guys play enough hockey during the regular season. There should only be enough pre-season games to prepare the teams for the real thing.
I think a system of relegation like in pro soccer would be good. Send the crap NHL teams to play in the AHL, and bring the Calder cup winner into the NHL. That's probably just not feasible though.

I would recommend removing some teams from the southern US region as they are very unpopular. Bring back the Quebec Nordiques, Winnepeg Jets, and put a team in Hamilton Ontario.
But on the other side he did make hockey a lot more sustainable in Canadian Markets and Smaller Markets.
Start a World television contract so the europe can see the game live would be huge. great revenues look what soccer brings in from the premiere league.

I'll tell him he SUCKS!! The NHL is better off without him. In his years as comissioner there's already been two lockouts. And what kind of idea is the salary cap???? Who cares if teams like Atlanta or Nashville don't have money to spend??? They shouldn't be in the NHL then!! If teams like Toronto or Detroit want to spend $60 million a year on player payrolls, then let them!!!!!! I'll bet The Leafs and Red Wings make more than Atlanta or Nasville even when they're spending a lot, it's because we have TRUE HOCKEY FANS!!!!!!! Gary Bettman needs to resign and give the game back to people who know hockey. A good comissioner canaidate would be Wayne Gretzky. He was a player for 20 years, part-owner of the Coyotes and now a coach. He's seen hokcey from so many perspectives. He knows what's good for the game and what's not. GET LOST GARY!!!!!!!!!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would tell him he has messed up the league in some ways and has done well in others but mostly messed it up. It is time for him to step down and let someone else handle the job, he is too much for the owners and not enough for the players, he should be fair to both sides.
And Susan S--you need to get your mind out of the gutter. He asked what would you TELL him if you could spend the day with him not what would you DO to him. And if you are old enough to be Gary Bettman's grandmother then you are REAL old!!!

I would tell him he has the league headed in the right direction but there are still more teams than the available talent will allow for. I would tell him to contract the NHL from 30 to 24 teams and restore the fan base where it actually exists: in Canada and the border States, not the freaking sun belt!

You need to start a World Hockey television network like the NFL network.
This is important to teach the history of the game to the United States markets. They can also get more exposure for the minor leagues as well and play world competition games.

i would tell him leave the game alone. you have ruined this beautiful game and making hockey look bad. sure the Americans think they are the best at it cause they keep winning the Stanley cup, but what the U.S fans don't realize is that there is only 6 teams in Canada to 24 in the U.S and most of the players are Canadians. then i would spit in his face and punch him in the nose. he moves Minnesota North Stars to Dallas then 2 years later brings a team back to Minnesota. why didn't he do the same with Winnipeg they got a new arena. he ruined Basketball which sucks anyways and now hes ruining hockey by changing all the rules so the 80% of Americans can understand a game.

Quit listening to only people from Bay Street and Madison Avenue about how the league should be run.
