.46 = .46/1 multiply top and bottom by 100 to get 46/100. Now cancel the common factors between the numerator and denominator.
46 = 2*23 and 100 = 2*2*5*5, so the only common factor is 2.
Dividing the top and bottom of 46/100 by 2 gives 23/50.

the number of digits after the decimal point is the number of zeros in the bottom part of the fraction, so:
.1 = 1/10
.01= 1/100
.001= 1/1000
SO:
.46 = 46/100
then find the largest number they can both be divided by to find the simplified answer:
They can both be divided by 2: 23/50

I'm going to help you change ANY decimal to a fraction....If we take 0.46, how do we read that mathematically?? By that i mean how do we read it beside "point four six". In order to answer this you MUST know your place value. If you know your place value you should be saying "forty six hundredths"....when you say that, you are saying exactly what the fraction is i.e. 46/100, then you of course have to reduce it....lets try another one. use 0.234...when you read it mathematically, using your place value knowledge, you should be saying "two hundred thirty four thousandths"...again you are saying exactly what the fraction IS...234/1000. I hope this helps....changing decimals to fractions is easy, as long as you read it mathematically.
