As technology advances, it costs less to maintain the systems. It would be nice to see the savings passed onto the consumer, or at least better pay for all of the employees. I think the most obvious way you are charged too much is with cell phone overages and long distance charges.

That person who works for the phone company can say that talk is cheap, because for years, anyone who works for the phone company gets free service and does not EVER have to pay long distance, roaming or anything! And, as for the people who work for the cable tv companies, they get the same perks. They get every single channel, ones that we could only ever dream of getting. They do overcharge. They claim that the wear and tear on the equipment when phone calls are placed costs them money to repair/replace. Ya right!

I'm not sure if you are talking about the cost of long distance, of taxes on your phone bill, of charges on your cell phone or what else.
A few years ago I switched to Yahoo Messenger voice and now save myself "a lot" of money. I don't have a cell phone. I "never" make long distance calls that I pay for. I always use the 800 numbers. My phone bill is about $19 to $25 each month.
I think the taxes on the phone bill are atrocious, in fact they make up a big part of my bill, but what gripes me is that I'm pretty sure I'm paying taxes on the amounts I pay ahead (that are listed on the phone bill) as well.
